Step 1: check if Mangal is already on your computer
Mangal ships with Windows 7 and 8. On Windows 10 and 11 it is part of an optional feature called Devanagari Supplemental Fonts (Aparajita, Kokila, Mangal, Sanskrit Text and Utsaah), which many PCs already have, especially when Hindi is added as a language. Open Settings › Personalization › Fonts and search for “Mangal”, or open Word, type a word in Hindi and look for Mangal in the font list. If it is there, you do not need to download anything: just select it. If it is missing on Windows 10 or 11, open Settings › System › Optional features, choose Add a feature and install Devanagari Supplemental Fonts. That is Microsoft’s official way to add Mangal.
Step 2: pick the right Mangal version
We checked the internal name table of every Mangal file we offer. Here is what each one is:
| File | Version | Copyright line in the file | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mangal Regular | 6.90 | © 2015 Microsoft Corporation | Windows 10/11, Word 2016 and later, PDFs |
| Mangal Bold | 5.90 | © 2009 Microsoft Corporation | True bold headings with Ctrl+B |
| Mangal | 5.90 | © 2009 Microsoft Corporation | Windows 7 era PCs and older Office |
| Mangal | 1.20 | © 2001 Microsoft Corporation | Very old systems only |
| Mangal (historical) | 0.99 | National Centre for Software Technology | Reference only, not offered |

For almost everyone the answer is simple: install Mangal Regular 6.90 and Mangal Bold together. The newer build has better spacing for conjuncts and matches what offices see on current Windows.
Step 3: install it
- Windows: right-click the downloaded
.ttffile and choose Install for all users. Restart Word. - Mac: double-click the file and press Install Font in Font Book.
- Android: Unicode Hindi already displays with the system font. Install Mangal only inside apps that support custom fonts, such as WPS Office.
Screenshots and troubleshooting (boxes instead of letters, broken matras, Word not showing the font) are in our how to install Mangal font guide.
