Orange characters need Shift. Note that F gives ि and is typed before the consonant, and Shift+Z gives the reph (र्) and is typed after the syllable, just like on a typewriter.
What is Remington Gail?
Before computers, Hindi was typed on Remington typewriters. When offices moved to computers, typists kept that layout through Kruti Dev and similar fonts, but those fonts are not Unicode. A Remington Gail keyboard maps the same typewriter positions to Unicode characters, so a typist with years of Kruti Dev experience can produce proper Mangal text without relearning. Many exam centres offer a “Remington (GAIL)” option next to Inscript for this reason.

Installing a Remington Gail keyboard on Windows
Windows does not include Remington Gail by default. Our tool works in any browser, but for typing directly in Word you need a Remington Gail keyboard driver installed with administrator rights. When available, it is listed on the download page. Microsoft’s older Indic Input tool also offered a Remington option.
